ComicWave for authors

Last updated 17 September 2026

Start with one scene

Start with one scene or a short excerpt. Three pages of four Standard panels cost 180 credits for drawing, plus the separately quoted planning charge. Paid story planning starts at 4 credits. A maximum hold is quoted by story size before you confirm; the final charge follows completed work and unused credits return. Drawing is priced separately at 15 credits per Standard panel. Free story planning is limited to one page, four panels and 12,000 source characters, within the daily planning allowance. Daily limits reset at 00:00 UTC. Credit packs increase the balance but do not raise daily limits.

Bring in your manuscript

Paste a chapter, an outline or a screenplay, or upload a .txt, .md, .docx, .fountain or Final Draft (.fdx) file, or a PDF with selectable text. Word and PDF files can be up to 10 MB (PDFs up to 250 pages), Final Draft files up to 4 MB and plain-text files up to 500 KB, with at most 100,000 characters in one import. Password-protected files, legacy .doc files and scanned PDFs aren’t supported; text recognition for scanned PDFs is marked as coming soon. Importing costs nothing, and Word and PDF files are processed securely and not retained.

Your rights and privacy

Under the current terms, you keep your rights in the material you submit, and ComicWave uses it only to operate, secure and support the service. ComicWave doesn’t claim ownership of generated output, but you are responsible for securing any rights you need for publication or commercial use; the paid plans list commercial-use rights. Projects are private by default and aren’t used to train ComicWave models without a separate, explicit opt-in. The legal pages are still marked as pre-launch drafts pending counsel review, so read the Terms and Privacy pages before you publish.

Keep characters and style consistent

Create your main characters in Cast before you draw, and lock their looks, so pages drawn from the story use each character’s Must match references. Review the cast, places, props, outfits and style in the plan before production starts. A new episode in a series reuses the project’s approved cast, world and style. Read every page through before you share it: references reduce visual drift, but they don’t replace a careful read.

Keep your words

Dialogue and captions arrive as editable lettering, so you can restore your exact wording in Studio at no cost. Tails on generated pages start below each bubble, so point them at the right speaker as you check each page.

Export a sample to share

Exports cost no credits. Free accounts can download PNG or JPEG pages with a ComicWave watermark; Starter and higher remove the watermark and add a 300 dpi print PDF, the easiest file to send to an editor or an agent. Every comic also has a read-only share link you can copy — anyone with the link can read the accepted pages.
