What Labs is

Labs is where ComicWave marks features that are experimental or still being built. Beta features can change or be removed, and planned features aren’t available until they’re released.

Available now: flat AI-rendered page

Fast Comic has one beta output: “Flat AI-rendered page · beta”, under Options › Output, on the Creator and Studio plans. It draws one image of one to four panels with the words painted into the artwork, for 45 credits. Because the text is part of the image, it can’t be edited afterwards, so choose “Editable panels” when you may need to change the lettering later.

In development

Imported page conversion is planned for version 1.5: it will detect the panels in an existing comic image, propose a reading order and read the text for you to correct. Also marked as coming are text recognition for scanned PDFs and custom styles. Read-only share links, Final Draft (.fdx) import and vertical lettering for Japanese manga are available now, so they are no longer on this list. A Japanese comic in the manga format is lettered automatically in vertical columns read right to left, in a Japanese font, and exported images keep that lettering; furigana isn’t supported yet.
